Welcome to Bakewell Primary School, a large primary school that is focused on delivering excellence in education.
This means that we aim for students to have excellent growth in their learning, expect them to demonstrate excellent effort with their work, as well as excellent conduct regarding their behaviour around the school.
Bakewell’s school values are Respect, Excellence, Courage, and Pride – these are explicitly taught to students and teachers are always on the lookout for opportunities to recognise students demonstrating our values.
Bakewell’s Code of Conduct makes clear the way in which students and staff need to behave, and focuses on the three themes of Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Part of the Solution.
Bakewell is known for the consistency of its practices across the school – we want students to have a high-quality experience regardless of which year level or classroom they are in. To this end, a premium is placed on providing teachers with high clarity about expected practices, on teachers planning teaching and learning programs together in teams, as well as leveraging the knowledge and skills of our more experienced and confident teachers as mentors, team leaders, and other leadership positions.
Bakewell recognises the range of learning needs that are present in a school as large as ours. We want to be good at catering for this range of diverse needs and implementing processes that better ensure that all students can learn well – regardless of starting points, individual needs, or other factors that can sometimes impact learning. We have strong wellbeing and inclusion programs, and intervention initiatives to provide more intensive learning support for students that need it most.
Bakewell values the particularly significant role that parents and carers play in the education of our students. We want teachers and parents to share information about how children are going at school and at home, to work in partnership, and generally have open communication – all of this will support teachers to be as well placed as possible to help students with their learning at school, as well as support parents to be well placed to do the same at home.
The Bakewell Primary School Board is a group of parents and staff that meet monthly to contribute to school planning and decision making in numerous ways – I encourage any parent / carer to consider attending these meetings when they can and even joining our Board as a parent member when vacancies arise.
Bakewell also looks to put on many school community events, which serve as great opportunities to celebrate the success of students, bring parents and teachers together, as well as give parents greater insight into how students are experiencing school.
I encourage you to visit, ring, or email me at any time. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you around the school.
